Jimmy Cash Sr. & Jr. W/granddaughter

Jim Cash talks Black Jack

Jimmy Cash Sr. extolled the merits of his F-1 Rocket, "Black Jack". He has built a beautiful bird, finished to perfection. The Gross Wt. Is 1250 Lbs including a "beef-up" in the vertical tail and additional wing ribs. Building the plane took 1250 hours which is low for a machine as pretty as this one. He can carry 75# of baggage.

Jim is a former F-16 pilot and loves the Rate-of-climb he gets with "Black Jack"~2-3000 Ft./min through 10000 Ft. The Rocket burns only10-11 Gal./Hr to cruise 175Kts. So he has the range to make it non-stop from his home in Montana here to Pecan to visit his son Jim, wife Shalise and granddaughters on AirPark Drive.

NOTAMS:

1. We are happy to delete the classified ad for the partnership share in the PA-28-180! John Hanst has purchased Stan Amyett's share of the airplane that is also co-owned by DR Bales and Jim Kucholz.
2. The lure of the runway has also caused Mike Bradley to succumb. He has purchased Gregg Coffey's share in the Cessna 172 also co-owned by Dave Burnette, Dave Moore & Curtis Biggs.
3. Dick Keyt has shipped his Polen engine off for a TLC overhaul by Mattituck on L.I.

Dean Callan & YAK-52

4. The Russians are coming! The Russians are coming! Don't panic, they are already here. Dean Callan stopped in from N.W. Regional in his Yak-52. Most unusual bird. Notice anything unusual about the propellor? The engine rotates clockwise as viewed from the front. That means that Dean develops strong left leg muscles.

5. Willie Bennett has flown off the test hours on his Glastar. Go, enjoy Willie!

Grant Metzger & friend

6. Grant and Linda Metzger have a vintage Stearman PT-17 biplane in their hangar in addition to Peter Coltmans Mooney that he is trying to sell. You will take note of the fact that the Stearman is White! Did you have to get special permission to paint it something other than the traditional yellow? Grant showed me the inertial starter they removed (25 Lbs). The sound of an inertial starter winding up and then clutched in is so great though.

Photo shoot at Pecan. Martin Sutter organized a picture taking session at Pecan on 31st Mar. and 1st April. Noted British photographer Ed Hicks visited Pecan Airpark the end of March, and with the help of some of the residents, arranged a two day air-to-air photo shoot for aircraft from the local area.

Two aircraft were used as photo aircraft. Dick Keyt flew Jeff Tomkins Cessna 180 on both days and Gene Keyt flew his Bonanza to finish up Sunday afternoon.

Poor weather the previous week broke, and clear skies and a good mix of photogenic clouds made for ideal shooting conditions. Residents who took part included:

Gary Green ~ Thorp T-18 N118GG
Damon Berry ~ Thorp T-18 N89ER
Martin Sutter ~ RV-6 N868CM
Gene Keyt ~ V-35 Bonanza N1835R
Don Saint ~ Glasair N952W
Jim Erskine ~ RV-6 N226BJ
Jim Freeman ~ RV-8 N969F
Joe Sasser ~ C177 RG N177KJ
Ed Hicks would like to thank everyone Who took part and helped to make the weekend the success that it was. news0401-8.jpg (10202 bytes)

In addition there were 12 RV owners from Texas and nearby states that came to have their "Pictcha took". We had a 5 ship echelon of RV-6's and RV-8's that should wind up on someone's calendar.

Smiling Tom Eanes

Bucker Jungman

We have all been waiting to catch a look at Tom Eanes rebuilt Bucker Jungmann. It has taken so long we were beginning to think it was all a rumor. Tom and son Mike brought it in last week and it is splendid, well worth the wait. (I didn't ask about the cost) The trip was a slow one, the Bucker has less than a 2 hour range at 110 MPH.

Sun'n Fun:

Much good fun was had by all attending. This year there were no forest fires or bad weather.

A number of good photos were shot by Rick Chapman and Dick Keyt. Bruce Hammer came in 1st and Don Saint 2nd in their class in the Sun 100 Mile race. Don clocked in at 191 Kts.(From a standing start!) ~ Bruce Bohannon is prebreathing 100% Oxygen for his record flight. His wife Donah holds the umbrella!
