Once upon a time there was a great Christmas celebration in the land of EAA # 983. It came to pass on December 8th that many members did enjoy the repasts and conviviality offered at Pecan country club. Yea verily!

Yes, it was a great evening. Our President Don Saint presided over the festivities assisted by the evenings "Roast mistress" Jill Peters. Sheryl Crumrine and committee crew did a splendid job of making table decorations and attending to all the myriad details.

The special event volunteers were honored for their contributions: Millie Ragle for the Spring fly-in, (not present, but will be honored at next meeting) and Gary Bricker for the fall fly-in. Even though the fall fly-in was canceled, Gary put in a lot of time. He has even volunteered to spearhead the Spring Fling.

Ken Houseman was made an Honorary EAA Chapter Lifetime Member for all that he has done for our chapter.

Ken Morgan, and Willie Bennett were given special honors and EAA jackets for their first flights. Ken for his T-18 restoration and Willie for his Glastar. (Dave Moore will be recognized at the next meeting for his RV-6 first flight.) Dick Keyt was recognized for his first place wins in the AirVenture formula RG cup, the Golden State and Copper State races.

Andy Rash Photography provided commemorative photos on-site with borders depicting honoree aircraft.

Man-of-the-month: Gary Bricker is a manufacturers representative living here at Pecan. He owns a straight tail Bonanza and is currently changing out the engine which was due for overhaul at 1800 SMOH. He has been flying for13 years; started out with a C-150 then a couple of 172's before getting his Bonanza. Gary Bricker quietly goes around doing all sorts of tasks for our chapter. You frequently see him unloading folding chairs, sweeping out the hangar after a meeting, and mowing the taxiway around the transient tie-down area as well as chairing fly-in events. He springs into action without being asked. Thanks very much Gary!

Parts Cost You guys with home-builts have a good thing going. The right passenger window on the Bonanza suddenly opened in- flight. The over-center latch is supposed to be held in place with a little torsion spring. It was missing. We inquired of Beech as to what the cost would be for one of these little suckers. Would you believe that the cost was $50.07? That is $12000/lb!

NOTAMS:

1) Lotsa hangar homes being completed. Damon & Donna Berry moved in to 9604 Taxiway, Jim & Shalise Cash now occupy 9632 AirPark, and Don & Shirley Saint have now moved to 9800 AirPark.

2) Tom Eanes Bucker restoration flew for the first time on December 15. It logged five flights that day to perfect the rigging of this Spanish- built bi-plane. This extensive and beautiful restoration took 8 years and includes a Lycoming O-360. It is licensed experimental with "N" number NX8TE. Looking forward to seeing it here at Pecan Tom, and congratulations on the A & P!

3) A newly formatted membership directory will be coming out next year. It is in need of updating. In some cases we know about changes, but in other cases only you can clue us in to changes. Tell us if you have changed address, telephone, aircraft, spouse(!) so we can make the change. We still have some directories. If you do not have one, or have misplaced it, let me know. ~ Gene

4) We will be instituting an electronic mail distribution of the news letter this year. It is most importand that you indicate your preference on the renewal form (page 6). We will be sending out both copies as we have in the past, but also "e" mail versions on a website available to all computer users that have access to the internet. The "e" mail version will have pictures in color. In order to save cost we will not be sending hard copies to people that indicate a preference for "e" mail.

5) Mike Williaford's wife Renda was in a bad accident last Friday. She was working in her house in Ft. Worth and fell through the ceiling striking her head. She is now in a coma in Ft. Worth Harris hospital. The family has seen some hopeful signs. Your prayers and cards would be much appreciated;

Start The New Year right!

January 13, 2001 Ken Houseman's hangar at North end of Pecan. Jimmy Younkin is scheduled to give us an outstanding talk. Jim is one talented guy. He was the brains behind the "Century" autopilot which led to the present S-Tech autopilot. He has a "mullicoupe" which he may fly here, and has also built a replica of "Mister Mulligan" (a Monocoupe on steroids with a 1340 P&W). He is building a digital autopilot for homebuilts and has already sold out the first 100. Jim is a master metal smith and has the contract to build the cowling for the beautiful replica Hughes H-1 racer. The original is in the Smithsonian, for those who have not seen this gem. Don't miss this one!
